They attended school in the Whitewater Unified School District from kindergarten until graduation and have become well educated, independent adults. There is a combination of farming, small town living, recreational facilities and cultural activities all right here!

Educational background :I earned my Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary Education (grades:1-8) and Special Education/Mental Retardation (MR), from UW-Eau Claire, 1979. I continued my education at UW-Whitewater and earned my Master's Degree in Special Education - Emotional Disturbance - Elementary (ED) in 1985. I earned my National Board Certification for Special Education from the American Academy of Special Education Professionals in the summer of 2011. I continue to take classes and earn individual certificates to be sure my skills are current to best meet the needs of my students.
My teaching experience includes one year special education teaching experience in Ithaca Public Schools in Ithaca, WI. I moved to Whitewater in the summer of 1980 and began teaching as an employee of Walworth County Children with Disabilities Education Board, working with behaviorally/emotionally disturbed students from Whitewater, Delavan, Elkhorn, Williams Bay and Fontana at Phoenix Middle School, Delavan, WI. In the fall of 1985, I started the Emotional Disabilities Program at Franklin Junior High in Whitewater. When I returned from maternity leave, I was transferred to the Washington Elementary Emotional Disabilities (ED) Program in Whitewater. After 5 years, the elementary ED Program at Washington, the program and students were moved to Lakeview Elementary. I taught at Lakeview for the next nine years. I continued to work for Walworth County and was transferred to Whitewater High School as a Cross Categorical Teacher in the fall of 2000 and completed my duties with Walworth County in June, 2015. I started as an employee of the Whitewater Unified School District during the 2015-16 school year.
In addition to teaching, I am also the district Transitional Specialist. As the Transitional Specialist, I connect with outside agencies and resources that our students will need upon leaving WHS. I also get to work with an Employability Specialist, who assists our students in acquiring job experiences and skills before leaving high school, along with summer employment possibilities. I am in contact with many agencies who offer post- high school assistance to our students.
My instructional experience has been enhanced by teaching graduate courses for teachers during summer school through St. Thomas University, as well as working with special needs students in the district. I have taught students from Kindergarten to Seniors in high school in all five of our schools.
I am entering my 37th year of teaching. My love of teaching and working with students who have special needs has not diminished. I am proud to be a part of this profession, because without teachers, there would be no other professions. Take time and thank a teacher for their dedication.
