Whitewater High School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hello and welcome to the start of the 2015-2016 school year at Whitewater High School! I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself, and tell you a little bit about my expectations for your child in my classroom.

My name is Chris Wiegman and this is my second year teaching full time in the Whitewater Unified School District. I grew up in Cuba City, WI on a dairy farm.  I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Platteville in December 2012. I did my student teaching in the Stoughton Area School District. I was hired in the spring of 2014 as a full time Social Studies teacher. I will also be helping coach the wrestling team. I am excited to be a part of this amazing school district. Two things about Whitewater that stick out to me are the staff collaboration and enthusiasm and the commitment to lifelong learning. It is my goal to continue on with the great success that Whitewater High School has experienced over the years.

A big part of my teaching philosophy centers around collaboration and discussion. Collaboration, to me means students and teachers working together in the classroom to reach a high level of learning. However, I also firmly believe that collaboration extends beyond the classroom to home. I want you to be an active part of your child’s success. I urge you to communicate with your child about what they are learning, how they are studying, and also how they can become better students and people. Discussion is the main teaching strategy that I will employ in my classroom. I believe in not only teaching content, but also teaching citizenship skills. It is my belief that discussion helps accomplish those goals. One of the biggest expectations for my students is to participate in class. I encourage you to help your child come to class with ideas, opinions, comments, and questions related to the topic we are studying or current news events. The environment in my classroom centers around respect. This is something that is brought up on a daily basis. Through an atmosphere of respect it is my hope that every student feels comfortable bringing their ideas, thoughts, and opinions to class to share.

Your child will be bringing home my course syllabus with a signature sheet. Please review the syllabus with your child and sign the signature sheet. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at 262-472-8139 or cwiegman@wwusd.org
