Dante Baker

Junior Dante Baker and Senior Yovanni Rojas-Reyes faced off on Monday, December 18, during homeroom to determine the best badminton player at WHS. With over 50 WHS students in attendance to watch this showdown, players were trading off points, and it was never more than a few points separating them. As the match wore on, Dante took control and went on a lengthy run to take it to 16-8, before Yovanni used his only timeout to gather his thoughts, talk to his coaches, and put together a game plan for his comeback. After the time out, Yovanni rallied and scored early and got the serve back, but Dante was unphased as he took it to 20-10 before ultimately securing the final winning point at 21 with a hit from Yovanni that fatally landed out of bounds. Congratulations to Dante for winning his first singles title! The doubles badminton tournament will begin in February during the second semester.
