Cross Country

The Whitewater Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country Teams tested themselves against one of the deepest fields they will see all season, lining up with more than 40 schools from across the region in both varsity and junior varsity competition at the Angel Invitational at UW Parkside on Saturday, September 20.

In Varsity action, the Whippets placed 33rd on the boys’ side and 30th in the girls’ race. With multiple state-ranked programs in the field, Whitewater gained valuable experience as they continue to build toward championship season.

Freshman Tyler Carollo once again paced the boys’ squad, racing to a top-100 finish in a field of more than 250 athletes. On the girls’ side, Virginia Nelson led the way in 23:40 for the varsity team. In junior varsity action, sophomore Peyton Comfort turned in a breakout performance, placing 93rd with a significant PR after not racing for a few weeks due to injury. Her time was 27:40.

“We are wrapping up a challenging week with two meets in five days, and like many other teams, we’re fighting through some mid-season illness, aches, and pains,” said Head Coach Chad Carstens. “I am confident in our process and the growth that will come from these opportunities. The experience they take away from this will pay off in the coming weeks.”

The Whippets return to action Saturday, September 27 at an even larger event, the Midwest Invitational in Janesville.
