This semester brought an unexpected challenge for the metals classes when the mill in the shop became unusable, requiring them to rethink one of their planned project rotations. Rather than pause learning opportunities, they adapted and introduced a new project: designing and fabricating custom lightsaber hilts.
Students explored metalworking techniques while focusing on craftsmanship, design, and personal creativity. The project quickly gained momentum, and many students fully embraced the challenge, producing a wide variety of unique and imaginative designs.
To celebrate the end of the semester, they took some fun photos of the finished pieces. The lightsaber beams were added using AI to enhance the final presentation of each student’s work.
Metals instructor Mr. Justin Buntrock says he is incredibly proud of the creativity, problem-solving, and enthusiasm these students demonstrated while turning an unexpected obstacle into a memorable learning experience.
